Business Spotlight – specialist timber merchant SV Timber
SV Timber supplies a wide range of timber and related products to trade and commercial customers as well as to the public, and offers great flexibility in meeting customers’ needs.
The business joined National Timber Group in 2022 extending the group’s customer reach within the Midlands, and the three thriving branches – at Nottingham, Alfreton and Leicester – became part of the NTG England branch network.
Customers now also have access to the processing and bespoke moulding capabilities of the NTG England mill at Sheffield, as well as the group’s specialist door and cladding divisions NTG Door Solutions and NORclad.
All three SV Timber branches carry significant stock and top categories are structural timber, sheet materials, fencing, machined softwood, flooring and doors – with all the associated products. SV Timber was founded by Ed Holder in 2004. Several members of the current management team have developed their careers with the business as it has grown from a single branch to three branches employing over 60 people.
Jack Hartley, recently appointed branch manager at Leicester, joined SV Timber in 2019 as a yardman, quickly becoming yard foreman. He then became part of the trade counter sales team and a year later moved to internal sales. Jack became assistant branch manager at Leicester in 2022 and was appointed to run the Leicester branch earlier this month.
“I’ve gained great experience working through the business and I’m delighted to be appointed as branch manager for Leicester,” said Jack.
“Across all our branches we’re totally focused on quality and service, establishing long term customer relationships.”
Adrian Dables, branch manager at Nottingham, began as an apprentice yardman at the Alfreton branch in 2009. He then moved into sales across the company, became branch manager at Alfreton for three years, and was appointed to head-up the newly relocated and expanded Nottingham branch last year.
Adrian commented: “The company was started with a very modest budget and not a single customer to its name on day one. Through hard work and dedication, we built a strong customer base from the ground up.
“As part of our community involvement for a number of years we have proudly supported local charity The Bodie Hodges Foundation, which supports bereaved families after the loss of a child.
“We have always remained true to our roots and try our very best to keep humility at the forefront of our values.”
